Chocolate Cake

250ml (1cup) boiling water׃
15ml (3 teaspoons)
125ml (½ cup) TRUMPS Cocoa
baking powder
440ml (1¾ cups) flour
5ml (tsp) vanilla essence
375ml (1½ cups) castor sugar
4 eggs (separated)
125ml (½ cup) cooking oil 




Pour boiling water onto TRUMPS COCOA POWDER & allow to cool down. Mix the flour, castor sugar & baking powder together and add to the cocoa powder mixture. 

Add the vanilla essence, unbeaten egg yolk and cooking oil to the mixture and MIX WELL!

Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites and place in 2 x 23cm sandwich pans. Bake in the oven at 180°C for approximately 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool down. 

Ice with your favourite icing and decorate with TRUMPS CHERRIES, TRUMPS VERMICELLI and/or TRUMPS 100’S & 1000’S.

Trumps Date and Coconut Squares

250 g PITTED TRUMPS DATES (cut into pieces)
125 ml (½ cup) sugar
1 egg (beaten)
125 g margarine
1 and a third packets of Marie Biscuits
125 ml (½ cup) chopped nuts of your choice
250 ml (1 cup) TRUMPS DESICCATED COCONUT for coating before storing


Cooking directions:

Melt dates, sugar and margarine in a pot on very low heat.
Add beaten egg when dates start breaking up (before boiling point is reached) and remove pot from heat.
Add broken biscuits and nuts. Press flt onto a 22cm x 32cm baking sheet.
Sprinkle half of the TRUMPS DESICCATED COCONUT on top.
Cut into pieces while still soft. Refrigerate to set properly.

Use remainder of TRUMPS DESICCATED COCONUT between squares when placing in a container to store.

Sweet and Sticky Bacon Cherry Braai Kebabs

A simple but tasty pre-dinner snack for your next braai.





250 ml Water
24 Trumps Glacé cherries
16 Rashers streaky bacon
8 Bay leaf stalks or wooden skewers
1 sachet KNORR Sweet and Sour Sauce





Mix the water with the contents of the Sweet and Sour Sauce sachet to form a smooth sauce.
Thread a cherry onto one of the skewers, then thread on a bacon rasher.
Add another cherry and a second rasher of bacon, and finish with a third cherry.
Repeat with the remaining skewers.
Brush the kebabs with KNORR Sweet and Sour Sauce.
Place a piece of foil over the grid of the braai and lay kebabs down on foil.
Braai for 7-10 minutes, turning regularly until bacon is cooked and cherries start to caramelise.

Serve with potato wedges and salads or as a pre-dinner braai snack.

500 ml (2 cups) castor sugar
250 ml (1 cup) oil
5 ml (1 tsp) vanilla essence
750 ml (3 cups) sifted flour
15 ml (1 tbsp) baking powder
250 ml (1 cup) milk
100 g (1 cup) TRUMPS FINE DESICCATED COCONUT for coating purposes
4 large eggs




Mix castor sugar and eggs in a mixer until light and fluff.
Add oil and vanilla essence and mix well.
Add the sifted flour and baking pwder to the mixture alternatively with the milk.
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C and grease an oven tray.
Pour the mixture into the greased oven tray and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Allow to cool before cutting into squares




500 ml (2 cups) white sugar
250 ml (1 cup) hot water
45 ml (3 tbsp) TRUMPS COCOA POWDER
15 ml (1 tbsp) butter OR margarine

Heat the sugar, TRUMPS COCOA POWDER, butter and water until mixture bubbles.
Cool down and dip sponge squares into the sauce.
Round of by rolling the dipped squares in the TRUMPS FINE DESICCATED COCONUT.
